Alta Rocks scours the world for unusual materials. Her vast stash of colorful beads and stones of different shapes includes Murano glass, Mexican lapis, Mexican blue tiger's eye, Turkish opaline, Venetian beads, Maine jasper, Japanese silver, Pacific coral, Czech glass and Swarovski crystal. A variety of “reclaimed” pieces also often adorn her necklaces, earrings and bracelets.

Born on the coast of Maine, Alta’s love of that rugged rocky coast is reflected in her lifelong passion for stones. An urge to express herself artistically had lingered for years. Perhaps it was in her blood – Alta’s mother was an exceptionally talented artist. When Alta moved back to Boston’s Jamaica Plain neighborhood, new experiences once again sparked her desire to create art.

Alta started stringing beads. Having retired from a lengthy career in mental health, she found this therapeutic. Her burgeoning hobby did not go unnoticed Alta explains: “Someone admired a necklace that I created. I decided to take a risk. I began making designer jewelry.” More and more folks started asking for pieces to match their wardrobes.

Alta Rocks was born.
